According to the Daily Star, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is keen on taking the vacant manager’s role at Championship side Aston Villa.
The Birmingham-based club sacked Steve Bruce on Wednesday after his side drew 3-3 with bottom club Preston North End that meant they had won just one of their previous nine league games. The run extended on Saturday though as the Villans lost 2-1 to Millwall under caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald.
Rodgers though may not be the best choice for the Villa hierarchy as they look to go one step further than last year, where they were denied promotion to the Premier League in the playoff final after a 1-0 loss to Fulham.
The Star reports that the current financial constraints for Rodgers at Celtic will lead to him quitting the club if the right opportunity arises. However, Villa also went through huge financial problems in the summer, and although the new owners came in and started pumping money back in, the club could still be under threat of breaching Financial Fair Play rules.
The Northern Irish boss may not find the backing he craves at Villa Park then and Celtic’s poor start to the season has been telling, despite him securing the double treble last season.
