Liverpool remain level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League following a narrow victory against Huddersfield.
Eager to keep his squad fit, Jurgen Klopp rung the changes for the trip to the Terriers with Roberto Firmino dropping to the bench, and Sadio Mane sidelined through injury. The Reds started brightly, and it was Xherdan Shaqiri who looked most dangerous. The Swiss international found Mohamed Salah with a lovely pass and the Egyptian finished expertly to hand Klopp a narrow 1-0 away victory.
The Reds have been unable to win ugly in recent seasons and are still yet to hit top gear this campaign. Once their attackers start firing, they will be a force to be reckoned with. One area of concern could be right-back with Klopp opting to use Joe Gomez on the right yet again. With Trent Alexander-Arnold benched, there was no place for Nathaniel Clyne who recently returned from injury.
With Clyne’s Liverpool career seemingly over, the Reds should make a move for Monaco defender – Almamy Toure. Valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old was a mainstay in the side alongside summer recruit Fabinho last season. However, the arrival of Benjamin Henrichs in August has restricted his game time so far. With Leonardo Jardim losing his job and his contract expiring next summer, Liverpool could grab a bargain.
The Mali international loves to bomb down the right flank but also remembers his defensive responsibilities. Toure averaged 2.6 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game last season (WhoScored) highlighting the strength he would add to the Liverpool back four in the absence of Alexander-Arnold. His arrival would give Klopp another top option in defence and allow Gomez to move back to the centre where he has thrived alongside Virgil van Dijk. Still only 22-years-old, Toure would only improve under Klopp’s tutelage.
With Clyne heading through the exit door, this should be a no-brainer for the Merseyside club.
