As reported by The Daily Star, Manchester United are pondering their transfer options with regards to Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba, potentially involving themselves in a deal for Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar.
What’s the story?
A transfer window doesn’t go by without United being linked with one of the world’s biggest footballing stars, but if latest reports are to be believe, this summer could be the biggest blockbuster window yet.
The Star report that Man United are considering letting stars Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial leave the club in an effort to bring Brazilian talent Neymar to the club.
Pogba, who earns a reported £200,000-a-week, produced a stunning performance against Man City but has struggled to find form in recent months and Anthony Martial has failed to convince Mourinho he is worth a regular starting spot in his side.
The paper say that a swap deal would involve both players going to Paris Saint-Germain, along with £50m, with Neymar arriving at Old Trafford.
Can it be pulled off?
Is this move likely?
This one is on the more absurd end of the transfer story scale but it’d be silly to write anything off given how crazy the transfer market has been in recent seasons.
There’s no doubting that Neymar has the potential to be a massive hit in the Premier League, his 29 goals and 19 assists at PSG this season are testament to that.
However, there’s little point in pursuing these massive individual stars when Jose Mourinho has still not forged a winning team mentality at Old Trafford. He has plenty of major individual stars but they are far from the finished product as a cohesive unit and signing Neymar is unlikely to improve the side in that regard.
United have plenty of business to do this summer, but they should focus on developing existing stars rather than getting involved in fanciful swap deals.
