Man City are looking to rejuvenate their midfield over the coming few years and their bets on Kalvin Phillips and Matheus Nunes haven't proved too successful. They already have Rodri as their defensive midfielder, playing in the same role as Wharton does for Palace, however, the Spaniard is said to have been overworked over the last couple of seasons and with Man City unsure about Kevin de Bruyne's future past next season, they may be looking to fortify the numbers in their squad.

Despite having played at the Championship level for under two years, Palace felt obliged to pay Blackburn's £22.5 million ($28.6m) asking price as they understood the potential of the midfielder. After just under six months in the Premier League, Wharton's talents also impressed England boss Gareth Southgate, who has added him to his final 26-man squad for Euro 2024 in Germany.
WHAT NEXT FOR WHARTON?
As per the report, Man City do not plan on making a move for the 20-year-old this summer. They plan on scouting him further and keeping an eye on his transfer situation with Bayern Munich also having shown an interest in the young Englishman. They may likely make a move in 2025 if the Englishman's performances persist at the same or higher levels.
