Aaron Wan-Bissaka has issued a hammer blow to Tottenham Hotspur by insisting that he will stay at Crystal Palace this summer, per Football.London.
What’s the word?
The right-back has emerged an excellent right-back under Roy Hodgson thus far this season.
He has made 37 appearances in all competitions this term and has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where he could link up with Mauricio Pochettino.
The London Evening Standard reported in April that he was a potential replacement for Kieran Trippier, who could leave the club this summer, while The Sun mooted Wan-Bissaka as a target back in March.
But he has now seemingly ruled out the prospect of leaving the Eagles, insisting that he sees his future at Selhurst Park.
He said: “The situation just shows that my performances don’t go unnoticed.
“But I am with Crystal Palace at the moment. That is where my contract is and that is where I will be next season.”
Pochettino’s influence
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy needs to play the Pochettino card.
The Argentine has an impeccable track record when it comes to working with players of Wan-Bissaka’s age; he’s 21 and is well on the way to becoming an elite full-back.
He is quick, tactically astute, strong in the tackle and a genuinely excellent crosser of the ball.
An upgrade on Trippier, Wan-Bissaka would be able to work with a manager who has transformed a number of Spurs players into regular England internationals.
The likes of Trippier, Harry Winks, Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier are all integral members of Gareth Southgate’s squad.
Wan-Bissaka could join that contingent, blossom under Pochettino’s tutelage and play Champions League football routinely.
He is best off making the switch and foregoing his loyalty to Palace, for the good of his career.
