Every year, we expect quite a lot to happen on transfer deadline days, especially in the summer. And this year, El Chiringuito came out with an exclusive report that Barcelona were offered Lucas Moura in the final hours of the window. Looking at that deal, it really could’ve been a great opportunity for the Catalans.
What’s the word, then?
Barcelona had a really peculiar 2019 summer transfer window. The Neymar saga was in the spotlight for the majority of the summer and at the end of the day, the Brazilian stayed at the French capital, at least for the time being. But if some of the late reports coming from El Chiringuito were true, a different Brazilian could’ve joined Blaugrana on deadline day.

The same source state that Moura was offered to Barcelona by Tottenham Hotspur despite the fact that the 27-year-old just recently penned a new contract. It would be a little weird for the club to put him on the table for possible suitors precisely for that reason but be that as it may, Barcelona really could’ve used a squad player of Moura’s abilities.
A golden reserve
It would be unlikely to think that Moura would arrive and slot right into the starting XI at Barcelona but maybe he could’ve been a good squad player for the team.
Seeing how both Malcom and Philippe Coutinho have already left the squad, and the same goes for Rafinha who was loaned out to Celta Vigo, Barcelona will have to rely on their youngsters as well as the first-teamers’ fitness throughout the season. With that being said, the entirety of their usual frontline are currently sidelined by injury, which could make for a good case for Moura.
He is not injury-prone and has the makings of a great squad player now that Barcelona have lost some players who played that role in the team. Just last season, Moura scored 15 goals and assisted two across all competitions, five of which were in the Champions League. That means that he could be a great source of goals coming from the bench and a pretty reliable too.
What might be of even more interest to Barcelona is his contribution in Champions League games. Last season, he averaged 2.2 shots and 0.9 key passes per game, on top of the aforementioned five goals he managed to score.
He may not be a star signing to dramatically improve the starting line-up but seeing how Barcelona’s numbers are somewhat depleted in the front line, maybe they could’ve used him as a reliable reserve.
