As reported by The Daily Mail, Tottenham have entered the race to sign talented Brazilian winger Malcom in this month’s transfer window.
What’s the story?
While the ever impressive Harry Kane hasn’t slowed down his scoring habits, Tottenham’s other usually reliable players haven’t quite hit the heights of last season so far this term and as the January transfer window opens, freshening up their attack could really ensure they have a successful second half of the season.
One player they’re said to be interested in is Bordeaux winger Malcom.
That’s according to The Daily Mail, who say that Spurs have expressed an interest in signing the attacker, who his club rate at £40m.
However, the paper also report that they’ll face competition from the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich for his signature, with Bordeaux also not keen on selling him until the summer.
Who is he?
At just 20 years of age, Malcom has yet to truly test himself at the top level of the game but is showing plenty of potential in Ligue 1, demonstrating he could be ready for his big move to a more illustrious league.
So far this season he’s scored seven goals and provided five assists in 20 appearances for the French club, the kind of attacking contribution that could make him a hit with Tottenham supporters, especially considering he is already doing it at a team struggling to pick up positive results in French football. Surrounded by better players he could flourish even more.
He has the ability to play on the left or right wings, making him a versatile choice for Mauricio Pochettino too, who could use some competition to motivate the likes of Son Heung-min, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli.
With his entire career ahead of him, getting in early and securing his talent before even bigger clubs come calling would be good business from Tottenham’s perspective.
