Tottenham Hotspur have transformed into genuine Premier League title contenders under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Since the Argentine’s arrival from Southampton in 2014, the North London outfit have finished inside the top four.
In the past two seasons, the team were in contention for the English crown, but missed out to surprise champions Leicester City and then winners Chelsea.
As it stands, Spurs are third in the table, level on points with second-placed Manchester United and eight adrift of leaders Manchester City after 11 games.
The club are also performing well in the Champions League having sealed a place in the last 16 with two games to spare.
The team managed to surprise the football world by holding Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu and then defeat the Spanish giants 3-1 at Wembley.
Gus Poyet, who played for Tottenham across a three-year spell, has outlined two reasons why the team have been progressing in recent years.
The Uruguayan told the London Evening Standard:
“What has made Spurs so good? Two things. One: having consistency with a very good manager in Mauricio Pochettino. Two: one of the greatest decisions Daniel Levy has made in the last 15 years is no longer selling the best players.”
Under Pochettino, the only big name that the team has lost is Kyle Walker, who was sold to Manchester City in the summer for around £50m.
