Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has told AS Colombia that he thinks Liverpool are “aware” of him, and that many clubs are interested in his services.
What did he say?
The 23-year-old was speaking about his future to the outlet from his homeland, and he was talking about the Reds in the process.
Can you name the result these iconic Liverpool images belong to? Give it a go now…
He explained: “I think [Liverpool] are aware, (it’s easy to) imagine with the coach we have, who played all that time in Liverpool. I imagine he must have friends, managers who come to watch the games and are on the lookout. Other teams are watching as well; we have to keep doing things right. There are many clubs interested, let’s wait until the end of the season to see what leagues are asking for me and make a decision. If God gives me the opportunity to go out to a good club, it will happen.”
Not a chance
In all fairness, Morelos has probably already outgrown the SPFL. This season, he has scored 28 goals in 37 games, meaning that his total since joining the Ibrox outfit is now at 76 strikes in 128 games. He was also prolific at his previous club, HJK Helsinki, scoring 46 times in 62 appearances.
But whilst he may be performing to an incredibly high standard in Scotland, it is a huge step up from there to the Premier League. It is hard to see him being as prolific in England straight after making the move, and that would be expected at a club like Liverpool.
His disciplinary record is also something worth looking at. In just two-and-a-half seasons north of the border, he has already picked up six red cards. That is not something he could get away with at arguably the best club in the world at the moment.
Jurgen Klopp would always have the lingering prospect of a volatile outburst leading to a red card, and his temperament could prove problematic in a seemingly settled dressing room.
He may be ready for a move from Rangers, but that doesn’t mean that Liverpool should be his next destination.
You can’t fault his confidence though.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are said to be big admirers of this Premier League duo.
